Lamorna & Dino’s rainy back garden wedding in Newlyn, West Cornwall with a portrait session on Gwynver beach
I think we can all agree that last summer was one of the wettest summers we’ve enjoyed in a while! Lamorna & Dino planned an airy, completely outdoor summer wedding in the gardens of their family’s beautiful private home overlooking mounts bay and had it been any other July, it would have been safe to assume it would have been a scorcher however this year, the weather had other plans.
This was our first wedding working alongside the esteemed Fern Godfrey and her amazing team and we were extremely excited for it. Rain or not, Lamorna and Dino didn’t let it stop them from having the most amazing cosy day in the house with their loved ones and Fern pulled out all of the stops to make it all happen seamlessly with the last minute plan changes.
Getting to Battery rocks for a few photos on the wedding day was a no go as I’m not over-exaggerating to say that the torrents did not let up even for a moment so instead, we met up again a few days later at Lamorna’s favourite childhood beach nearby for a portrait session in the most ethereal and magical light a photographer could possibly dream up.

We wanted to share Lamorna & Dino’s wedding, not just because it’s beautiful but because it shows how the rain can’t ruin your day. A real highlight was when everyone squeezed into the lounge with the fire lit singing sea shanties and Cornish folk songs accompanied by their friends playing the guitar and violin. It really was a special moment - and everyone had a great time singing ‘Lamorna’ led by the bride’s father himself.
Intimate First Look before the wedding ceremony
Lamorna & Dino shared a first look in the bedroom. We captured a few portraits of them together before they walked hand in hand, braving the rain and wind for their outdoor ceremony in the open stretch tent which their family had lovingly made a few modifications to in order to shelter everyone from the rain.
A family focused, intimate back garden wedding in Cornwall
Their ceremony was led by the siblings of the couple and they were joined in a hand fasting while the brides sister read a poem and sung a duet to welcome them down the aisle. It was such a personal and beautiful ceremony, even with the rain lashing down around them and thrumming on the roof of the tent, all the guests were warmed with blankets and cosy furs on their chairs to keep the chill away.
West Cornwall’s most beautiful soft sandy beach
The weather for the follow up portrait session more than made up for the wedding day. The sea was the most shimmery palest of aquamarines and the soft sands pale and dreamy. Cornwall was looking her finest while these guys frolicked and basked in the belated July sunshine. With 2024 looking set to be another rainy year, I do wonder if having a follow up portrait session is going to be a new permanent fixture in our offerings for couples that want really beautiful portraits in their wedding outfits without the stress of the weather conditions or time constraints on the day.
What a dreamy & intimate celebration. Bringing all their loved ones to Cornwall for a week of BBQ’s, celebrating, warmth and togetherness. Thank you so much Lamorna, Dino & family for sharing your beautiful memories with us and trusting us with the task of preserving it all for you. They shared a beautiful quote at their wedding which was: “How we live our days is how we live our lives” and that really stuck a chord and we’ll carry it with us. What a beautiful philosophy to remind us that each day is part of something bigger and that it’s important to always make time for small, special things that will contribute to our spiritual well being over the years. I love how much we learn from the people we meet and the wisdom they impart - we had another moment like this in September at Jen & Dave’s joyful Buddhist wedding.
I’m so excited to see what 2024 brings and what wisdom we’ll glean and the stories we’ll tell of all the beautiful souls we’re yet to meet.
