Where do I even begin with Ella & Theo’s dream wedding? I’ve been capturing the McNish family for several years, ever since Ella’s older brother Isaac got married and it’s been a privilege to see them year after year, documenting their growing family and hearing all about their adventures. When Ella got in touch to book me for her winter wedding, I was so excited to see everyone again.

Unforeseen circumstances arose and their original plans (An intimate winter wedding at their favourite eatery) fell through so they brought their wedding forward and decided to go all out with a canvas tipi wedding on their family farm on the Lizard. Anybody who’s tried to get married outdoors this summer in the southwest can attest at what a gamble that was but my goodness did it pay off. Between all the storms (and there have been many!) these guys enjoyed the most glorious & hazy August weather and celebrated a fully outdoor wedding in the meadows and long grass of their beautiful family home. Almost every element of their day was homemade, proof that you don’t need a big budget to pull off a divine & stylish wedding - just a bit of vision and some artistic flair. Ella designed everything from the stationary to the ‘flowers’ on the tables, seating plan and orders of service. It was a visual feast for the eyes. She even made her own shoes & necklace. An absolute pleasure to capture and there was a lot of belly laughing when some Greek Traditions were rolled out during the speeches - notably a bit where the bride is taken hostage by thugs and the groom has to barter for her release.

A personalised intimate outdoor wedding ceremony with a sing along

These guys opted to have a town hall registry wedding a few months previous so that they could have Ella’s brother Isaac deliver a personalised ceremony just for them outdoors in the meadow. Ella’s best friends orchestrated a sing along to ‘This will be an Everlasting Love’ which got everybody rolling in laughter and the Little Boat Bar was a huge novelty serving up summery cocktails as the welcome drinks alongside Beautiful and the Feast, one of our favourite Cornwall Wedding caterers delivering the tastiest canapés ever. Ella’s neice and nephew made for the cutest paige and flower fairy you ever did see.

This wedding was the epitome of fun. They brought so much energy to the day and their guests really went with it. It was such a great crowd and it really couldn’t have gone better for them. Sometimes, in wedding planning things can end up taking an unexpected turn but what works out in the end can be so much better than you ever imagined. This was definitely one of those days and I’m so happy they brought me along for the ride.
