2022| A round up of special moments | Lyra & Moth - Cornwall wedding photographer & videographers
A year of intimate weddings, elopements, giddy celebrations and merriment
What a year! Weβre pretty late to the party with this blog post as these usually creep out around NY and itβs March already apparently?! Weβve already turned around our first wedding of the year but hey, thereβs no time like the present so here we are, late to the party with our very own roundup of our wild, beautiful and adventurous 2022.
Our year kicked off super early with a rainy but super romantic winter wedding at Trevenna Barns for Carl & Hannah. It was Sarahβs first wedding post surgery and we had the full team (Jon on video, Sarah & Rachael on photos) to make sure their beautiful day was captured start to finish. In February, the light was unreal and we were at dreamy Treseren capturing Melanie & Chiragβs super intimate, super romantic little late winter wedding. The snow drops were peeping out the Holywell bay was looking FINE.
Can you guess this famous landmark below? If you guessed Landsend you were correct! In March we were blessed with more of that sort of light that makes photographers drool for Ellie & Steveβs classic vibes Cornish wedding at the farflung end of the island. We didnβt spot the Scilly isles this time but we did witness the most gorgeous of sunsets.
Polly & Dave had the prettiest early spring elopement among the bluebells at Treseren beneath the Walnut tree with a little trip to Holywell Bay afterwards for some portraits and adventures. Everything about this intimate ceremony was gorgeous, especially the frothy spring flowers by Emily of 3Acre.
April came, and Jon was up in the Cotswolds capturing the dreamy little Anglo-French wedding of Anaig & Harry and their sweet daughters at the Fleece in Bretforton. the blossoms were emerging and they had the loveliest ancient thatched barn for their ceremony! We have a weakness for anything thatched.
Meanwhile, Sarah was at the Tudor wedding venue, Pengenna manor in Cornwall capturing Katie & Elliot who were also taking advantage of frolicking in the blossom. It was a crazy hot sunny day, it was hard to believe it was early April.
A few days later, we were celebrating with Daniella & Charlie at Pengelly Retreat in Cornwall amongst the newly emerging bluebells. Their pretty boho wedding had some extremely cute decor and the cutest outdoor ceremony set up and not to mention their adorable kids who stole the show. We seem to have pigeon-holed ourselves into the niche of intimate family weddings and we couldnβt be happier about it.
Bryher & Sakis were married at the fairytale Saint Senara church in Zennor followed by a colourful greek-meets-cornish vibes reception at Chypraze. Most of the guests and the couple spent the majority of the wedding on the glorious beach nearby though and who could blame them?
We spent a gloriously soft and misty day in Lostwithiel for Caroline & Matthew and their sweet children and then a contrastingly super hot day on the Lizard peninsula for Amelia & Lukeβs bouncy castle, yurt & corgi fuelled pagan hand fasting. There were SO MANY CORGIS. and yes, I did have a bounce on the bouncy castle.
Early May, we were at the Cornish Place for the first time capturing our idea of a dream elopement (fortunately it was the couples idea of a dream elopement too!) Lauren & Ollie were wed in the charming woodshed with their two daughters and parents witnessing followed by a champagne reception in the blossom filled orchard and a wander around the bluebell woods. Family elopements and intimate weddings with fairytale style really is our jam. You can view blog post from this charming wedding here!
Are you fed up of bluebells yet? If so, Iβm sorry to have to tell you but weβre a bit obsessed with wildflowers. Amanda & Carl had a mystical intimate wedding at Pengersick castle in Cornwall and a wander around the extensive and dreamy grounds that the venue had to offer. The legends say that the castle is haunted and whilst we were there, one of the guests reported being βpokedβ whilst sat in a particular chair. Weβll leave it up to you though whether or not you believe :)
Catherine & Freddieβs family home garden wedding was full of mayhem and mischief. Jon & Rachael were up in Oxfordshire capturing this one and they had the wildest and best time. Jonβs favourite moment was when the best man surprised Freddie and Catherine with their favourite song remixed by the original artist to have their names in it. How he made that happen will forever remain a secret!
isles of scilly intimate wedding on st marys
The great thing about living in Penzance, is that we are the port town for the glorious isles of scilly. We would totally live there could we justify making our work viable there but alas, Penzance is the next best thing. Luckily, since transport there is relatively convenient for us, we get to capture dreamy island weddings there each year and in 2022, we were on St Maryβs for the intimate wedding of Pippa & Jack at Old Town church. It was a scorcher of a day but the sea was twinkling blue, idyllic and perfect for a cool off. Weddings on the isles of Scilly are always the highlight of our year and we canβt wait to get back in May for an elopement on St Agnes island.
May was filled with magic, especially when Sarah & Tom eloped to St Mawes with just their nearest and dearest for a super sweet & chic wedding at the st Mawes hotel followed by a boat reception. You can read more about their lovely wedding here.
Whilst weβre on exciting travels, we were off to France for Camille & Vincentβs absolutely glorious Pastoral themed wedding at the glasshouse of Morienval Abbey. Camille, an artist who loves all things fairytale opted for a handmade pastoral green wedding gown made by Madame JJette which featured beautiful embroidery of her parraqueets, Elliot & Lara. Guests were encouraged to wear hobbit themed attire and they had a late afternoon ceremony at the end of a treasure hunt.
We always love a cheeky granny whoβs stashed away some extra confetti for after the ceremony exit. Vanessa & Dan had a stormy and wild May wedding on the Lizard but nothing says drama and romance like some epic sea mist and amazing views of the cliffs and ocean. But we love mischief best of all.
Beachy & boho in st ives
Jenni & Tom had a colourful, candid and summery beach wedding in iconic St Ives. Jenni went barefoot the whole day and wore the floatiest, dreamy toile de jouy dress, extremely on vibe for a Cornish festival vibes seaside wedding.
Olivia & Henry had every single weather imaginable at their summer wedding on their family farm. From bright sunshine to thunderstorms, but the guests made the most of the welly wanging and getting cosy in the tipi.
Meanwhile Jon was in St Agnes capturing the sweet, chilled out and intimate wedding of Lauren & Peter who had a sunset wander down to Trevaunance Cove.

Bethany & Joshβs wedding took place on the hottest day of the year up near Woking. This did mean that the evening ice cream van and outdoor Ceilidh was greatly appreciated by all of the guests. Ice cream at a summer wedding is always a good idea!
If you plan a June marquee wedding on a clifftop overlooking the sea, itβs obviously going to be a scorcher right? :P Georgie & Andyβs day went from misty to bright and sunny but by the afternoon the winds had picked up and a big storm rolled in. They braved the winds to dance in a flower meadow overlooking the ocean and didnβt stop smiling although we did dash back inside just as the thunder and lightening showed up! Their day finished though with the most epic of sunsets ever but it was clearly their black lab, Weasel that stole the show.
Jon & Hannah teamed up for this sunny wedding reception at Eggington House for Camilla & Theo. The historic house had some great interiors for making a few Wes Anderson inspired shots and making use of the dramatic window light. Give us all the old houses with beautiful windows!
Megan & Aaron had a late afternoon ceremony at Tremenheere Sculpture gardens for their local midsummer nightβs eve wedding. This beautiful elopement was such a joy to capture for fellow Penzance dwellers. I loved everything about their celebration from the cooler box of pre-made Pina Coladas to the splash on Marazion beach in the last of the dayβs sunlight.
Sarah & Adamβs ethereal day was a photographerβs dream complete with the most dramatic light for their evening stroll on Holywell Bay. You can read more about their awesome intimate wedding here! They had a combination of analogue and digital coverage which is exactly our jam.
Matt & Steph got married on the other hottest day of the year in the Cotswolds. I knew these guys from Uni so it was so good to be back among familiar faces, it was like a big reunion and I had the best time goofing about with these kindred spirits.
Simon & Saharaβs wedding was another July scorcher and they enjoyed a pretty garden party celebration as the second leg of their 3 part wedding in North Cornwall. With the beautiful clear roof marquee, they had all of the pretty glasshouse vibes.
Angharad & Barney also had a garden party wedding, further down the coast at beautiful Treseren where they were married on the lawn in front of the handsome moongate that Kat from Tide Flowers expertly crafted for them. Such a perfect and heartfelt family centred wedding.
Milla & Hywel were married in the Cotswolds. This one was so special as I had captured Millaβs twin sisterβs wedding a few years back to so seeing all the family again and capturing Milla get married was quite emotional for me ^_^ (In a good way!) Myself and Jon get so emotionally invested in the people we meet and their stories.
When the bride and groom handed out ten or so bubble guns to the cohort of kiddos at their family and friends festival vibes wedding, it filled the Cornish Tipi Weddings glade with a storm of bubbles. It was pure magic, chaos and then some! If youβre having kids at your wedding, we HIGHLY recommend getting in bubble guns or a bubble machine for maximum fun, whimsy and chaos.
Our August was filled with dreamy little elopements. Rebecca & James eloped with their two girls and were married beneath the walnut tree at gorgeous Treseren followed by a dreamy picnic set up on the clifftops overlooking Crantock.
Michelle & Sam wished for mist on their August wedding day and would you believe, they had the most beautiful sea mist roll in off the ocean for their fairytale wedding on the lawn.
Chelsea & Aaronβs fairytale garden party wedding was family orientated and full of fun and mischief. Whenever thereβs kids thereβs mischief in abundance and we love it. These guys had a soft fairyish boho vibe at the family farm and there was cocktail bars, glitter bars, coffee bars and burger bars. All the best kind of bars really!
Then we were on the beautiful island of Guernsey in the channel islands capturing Max & Sineadβs summer festival wedding at Vale Castle. They had a great big tipi inside the castle ruins and guests could explore the ramparts and take in breathtaking views from the other islands and ocean. What a sunset we got too!
Louise & Sam had a beautiful summer wedding at the idyllic Horn of Plenty in Devon with the most amazing views of the rolling Devonshire hills and Dartmoor for their ceremony. For entertainment, they hired a falconry display but the Hawk loved one of the bridesmaidsβ shiny headpieces a little bit too muchβ¦
Helen & Pete had the most dreamy August wedding at the Trefusis Estate near Flushing with panoramic views over the Fal River. They were so relaxed and up for anything, always living in the moment and the day was full of dancing, fun and shenanigans.
Alex & Sam opted to have Jon second shoot entirely in film at their Trebah Micro wedding. Film is back in fashion and we have been waiting for this! :P
September was a month filled with giddy joy and non stop laughter. Becky & Ciiku didnβt stop giggling at their intimate Pengelly Retreat family focused wedding at the sweet, lakeside Glamping site in central Cornwall. Then, we were up to Hafod Farm in North Wales for Stacey & Philβs day of endless shenanigans. You should all take a leaf out of their book and get space hoppers for your wedding. You wonβt be disappointed.
Jon & Rachael teamed up to capture Jonny & Rachael (No, the irony is not lost on us) at our gorgeous hometown of Penzance. Itβs always a big deal capturing a local wedding cause if you do a bad job, the whole down will know about it and youβll be driven out with a βshameβ bell. Kidding. But seriously what a dream day! Penzance light never disappoints.
Meanwhile that day, Sarah was at Treseren capturing the romantic & whimsical day of Kathryn & Alex where they spent the afternoon dancing barefoot on the sand. Needless to say, our group chat that day was filled with cute selfies of us all having a great time at our respective weddings and feeling grateful that we get to do this and spend these days connecting with special people and capturing their connections in turn.
The nights began to draw in, and we were back at our favourite tiny wedding venue for Becky & Andrew who had a twinkly celebration and a trip to a rather stormier and wilder Holywell as summer seemed to melt into autumn so quickly that week.
Oli & Katie celebrated their wedding with a beautiful church ceremony in St Neot followed by a reception at Tremenheere. We are always an advocate for a bridal cape, especially if you want that swishy veil vibe without covering up your hair style. We got the most serene golden hour light for their couple photos on the moors.
Jess & Damon wanted a really relaxed day with no fuss, all about them so they eloped to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Penzance and were married in the Pagoda overlooking the subtropical gardens. After a cheeky McDonalds run to dodge the rain, we headed to St Michaelβs mount for a wee adventure and to photograph them against that iconic Shakespeare mural.
Milly & Aidan eloped too, to stylish Treseren for a velvet tuxedo and luxury vibe. They were forecast torrential rain and storms but the reality couldnβt have been more wrong. They had the most perfect weather for their beach adventure to Holywell.
Matt & Amy had a traditional Cornish wedding at their family church followed by a reception at Wheal Dream, a local Sunday roast destination. We all braved the rain for their couple session at Prussia Cove which was wild and stormy just as we arrived but it made for some atmospheric shots as we dodged the downpours.
When Anna & Aude told us their wedding was going to be a night time wedding, we were a little nervous as weβd never shot a wedding all in the dark before but the challenge was a fun one and we loved using the lights dramatically, capturing the little pockets of light where it was through fireworks, torches and theatrical beams. With their witchy, ethereal vibe, every scene gave us renaissance painting vibes and we loved every minute of it. Also, their vows to each other during their ceremony had us sobbing.
As the seasons turned darker. the light changed and we loved celebrating those autumnal tones and mystical light as it filters through the trees. Alanna & Stefan shared an intimate elopement with just their closest family in Cornwall and the light that day created some beautiful, dramatic rays in the drawing room. We loved capturing the casual intimacy and little glimpses of moments in between. Itβs not all about the couple photos after all :)
Jo & Matt had a romantic late autumn wedding at Trevenna Barns with all of the blush tones & peachy pinks. They got the cutest paper dots confetti which stays in the air for ages after being thrown which meant they got absolutely killer confetti shots that looked as though they were walking through very colourful clouds (they kinda were.) Also, Mattβs niece was the cutest flower girl!
Kate & Gary had a tiny wedding at Treseren focused around their children. Their eldest daughter even read a poem out during the ceremony, a moment which made her father so proud. Capturing family weddings gives us all the cute fuzzy feels :)
Charles & Lucy had a beautiful Nancarrow winter wedding with a reception in the barn with a sea shanty and mulled wine. They asked us to keep their photos private but we couldnβt do a yearly round up without giving them a little mention! We even enjoyed a smattering of snow which set the vibes off at the venue creating all the magical wintery wedding vibes.
Our final wedding of the year was the perfect tonic to end the year on. Isaac & Georgia travelled over from Aus to elope at Treseren. The brief they gave us was βAmerican Gothicβ with slightly emo Hollywood vibes and we just had the best time with them. They had us belly laughing all day long and we loved making weird, ghostly & romantic imagery for them to remember their elopement by.
What a beautiful year! We canβt believe we captured fifty awesome and unique weddings and met so many incredible people along the way. If you had told us back in college that weβd get to do this for our full time work we wouldnβt have believed you and yet here we are. Thankful and full of joy for work thatβs filled with variety, creativity and connection to people. We love telling stories and working to all the different and wonderful eclectic briefs thrown our way and always putting our own spin on it, observing the light, the details, the seasons. Gah. A total dream.
Next week marks our 2023 season kicking off again and we are feeling READY for it! :) What will this year bring? Onwards to adventure!
